Walking in St. Malo

On the walls, southwest corner

This week has brought frigid, rainy weather. We have not been inspired to do much adventuring. It's easy for me to stay inside and work on various projects. The days zip past and I am never bored, but what I've done this week with my time is not blog-worthy. Therefore I am mostly putting up photos today of our morning and evening walks between the rain drops.

The winter sun illuminates only the tops of the buildings. At ground level we're in perpetual shadow.

This morning's walk was taken when the sun came popping out from behind the rain clouds. For an hour or so, we had a glorious, if quite chilly and very windy walk along the walls.

The ramp up to the walls, where we were almost blown over.

The colors of the sea, the sky and the clouds change from moment to moment, offering a feast for the eyes. On this morning our walk coincided almost exactly with high tide.

The snaking breakwater.

The overview of the harbor is wonderfully expansive. In the time it took us to walk from the corner of our wall to the port, this freighter made its way into port.

Steaming into port from the Channel.

Walking on the walls was a windy business, blowing the braid right out of my hair.

Steps leading down from the wall at the entrance to the port.

Just after sunset we took another windy walk to the Môle Beach, much closer to low tide. Across the breakwater the Channel ferries were alight, probably indicating that they would soon be off again, heading towards England.

Walking the dog.

I always enjoy the view across to Dinard, where I have stood many times on the shore looking back to St. Malo. We have stayed several times in one of the buildings on the opposite hill.

Light falls over Dinard.

This time the water is blue rather than turquoise.

Môle Beach

As we walk back home in the drizzle and cold, the circus rides light up the twilight.

The Adrenelyn from a distance. I wonder how many are riding it.? I haven't taken the time to discover.

  2. We had a friend who loves walking and said that she knew an area from her feet. It seems you will know St Malo the same.
